Dan & Natasha
We’re Dan and Natasha Lauer, a husband-and-wife team and the founders of Lauer Financial LLC. For more than two decades, we’ve helped clients (many of them federal employees) navigate their benefits, plan for retirement, and protect their financial futures.
Our journey began in 2004 when Dan launched the firm, with Natasha joining the following year. Both of us are former attorneys with law degrees from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. (We met in Rome in 1994 during their study abroad program!) Dan also holds the Certified Financial Planner™ and Chartered Financial Consultant® designations. We are both proud Chartered Federal Employee Benefits Consultants℠ (ChFEBC℠).
Our legal training gives us an edge in understanding complex systems like FERS and CSRS. We help federal employees maximize TSP, FEGLI, and other FERS & CSRS benefits, then integrate them with cashflow analysis, investments, insurance, tax planning, and estate considerations. Ultimately, we bring everything together into a clear, customized retirement plan aligned with each client’s goals.
Our philosophy is simple: build a strong foundation, invest for the future, and stay disciplined over time.
As independent fiduciary advisors, we have no obligation to promote any particular products. And we keep our client base intentionally selective so we can give every relationship the attention it deserves. We also coordinate seamlessly with accountants, attorneys, and other professionals to ensure a unified long-term plan.
Beyond work, we love to travel and are active supporters of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Archdiocese of Chicago, and the Chicago Community Trust. Helping people is at the heart of what we do.”

Purpose Driven Financial Services Team
Shunsicker@pdfs.education
Stuart is a retirement specialist and federal employee benefits specialist at PDFS. As a VCU-Richmond graduate with a degree in finance, specializing in business, Stuart has seen nearly every side of the financial industry. Early in his career, he worked for smaller firms and oversaw trading and investment portfolios. He also held a Series 24 license and signed off on variable business within the firm. “I wore a lot of hats,” he says. “I focused on the investment side, but when the markets crashed, I took too many phone calls with crying voices on the other end.” Those tough phone calls led him into the insurance side of the business. He now considers retirement his focal point and believes in making sure that each client is prepared for retirement before they move to the next step. With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, he has become an expert at assessing each individual person’s situation and how to best prepare them for retirement.
Stuart is extremely passionate about working with teachers and federal employees, helping them understand the various nuances of their unique retirement needs. His beautiful wife of nearly 20 years, Andrea, is a teacher, so he’s very familiar with the issues they face, and he tends to gravitate toward clients who serve and assist. He has also experienced many of the hypothetical scenarios he raises to clients. What if a spouse passes away suddenly, or what if you’re forced into retirement early? Stuart has been there, and he knows how to navigate those rocky waters with you.

Jennifer Akins
Jennifer Akins originally became interested in learning more about federal employee retirement benefits because she is the spouse of a federal employee. Being in the financial planning business and wanting to plan for her own financial future, she found it very difficult to get answers regarding her husband’s federal benefits from his human resources department. She also found that his coworkers were having the same problem. They knew she was in the business and started asking a lot of questions in hopes of finding the right answers. Rather than muddling through the vague information from the back office, she decided to become her own expert in the field and earn a certification with extensive training in federal employee retirement benefits.
Federal employee retirement benefits is just one of the many areas of planning expertise held by Jennifer Akins. She is not just a planner; she is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, which is the most rigorous, prestigious and comprehensive financial planning certification in the industry. This background allows her to complete a cohesive plan for an individual’s financial future, tying in all areas of planning including investments, insurance, retirement planning, taxes and estate planning.
Jennifer Akins has been in the business for over 17 years and truly loves her job. She enjoys building relationships with her clients and their families, assisting them in organizing their financial lives, and helping them achieve financial confidence to work towards their goals.
Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband, visiting with friends, attending live theater shows and music events, traveling, and scuba diving.

She follows a holistic approach that takes into account the client’s entire financial picture to help connect their goals with a concrete plan to achieve them.
Anne got her start in the financial industry through banking, where she learned the loan process and helped get a new bank branch off the ground. While in banking, Anne discovered that many families in rural communities don’t have easy access to professional financial advice. To fill that service gap, she took a leap of faith and switched careers in 2004.
Determined to succeed, Anne leaned on the relationships she developed during her banking career as well as her “outside the box” thinking to build her financial services practice one client at a time. She runs her practice by treating people the way she likes to be treated, a lesson she learned early in life from her father.
In 2010, Anne became an independent professional to broaden the pool of products and services she is able to provide. As an independent professional, Anne is not an employee of an investment or financial services firm. She is an independent business owner and has the freedom to structure her business in a manner that best serves her investing clients.
Anne and her husband, Matt have two sons, Blake and Bryce. They enjoy raising and showing sheep as a family.

Cornerstone’s Founder and CEO, Gordon Wollman, has been helping people plan, pursue and achieve the goals they have for themselves and their families for over 25 years. Gordon grew up helping his dad on the family farm near Huron, South Dakota. After high school, he went to basic training, both to serve our country and to help pay for college. While attending South Dakota State University to earn his degree in mechanized agriculture with a minor in agronomy, Gordon went through officer candidate school and stayed connected to the farming community by running a custom hay bailing business on the weekends.
Unfortunately, Gordon’s father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 1989. As a newly married, recent college graduate, Gordon moved back to the farm and tried to make a go of it, living with the same grit and discipline his father had. Gordon found that he welcomed the challenge of handling the estate and helping his mother get back on her feet, and that experience made him realize how important it is to have a financial plan. After about three years of farming, he decided to change his career path.
At the urging of a family friend Gordon obtained his Series 6 & 63 and insurance license and began working with an insurance company. But he soon realized that insurance was just a piece of the puzzle regarding comprehensive financial security, and that he could better help clients if he had a broader range of investment tools and education. So, he jumped in to learn everything he could, obtaining his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificate and eventually earning his Master’s Degree in Financial Planning.
Gordon served thirteen years in the SD Army National Guard, resigning his commission in 1998. He has been ranked on Barron’s Top 1,200 Financial Advisors list twelve times since 20091, Forbes’ Best in State Wealth Advisors list five times2, and the Financial Times FT 400 Top Financial Advisors in 2018 and 20193.
From offices in Sioux Falls and Huron, South Dakota, Gordon and the team of wealth advisors at Cornerstone provide integrated, comprehensive financial planning for hard-working individuals from the Midwest and around the country. The Cornerstone Experience™, our multistep financial-planning process, helps you answer questions like, “When can I retire?” and “Am I invested appropriately?” Working together, you’ll begin to understand where you are now and where you want to go, then plan and make decisions that will help you take care of the people you love, enjoy the activities that are important to you, and contribute to the causes you care about.

The rankings are based on data provided by over 6,186 individual advisors and their firms and include qualitative and quantitative criteria. Factors included in the rankings: assets under management, revenue produced for the firm, regulatory record, quality of practice and philanthropic work. Investment performance is not an explicit component because not all advisors have audited results and because performance figures often are influenced more by clients’ risk tolerance than by an advisor’s investment picking abilities.
The Forbes ranking of Best-in-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of 7 years of experience, and the algorithm weighs factors like revenue trends, AUM, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Out of approximately 34,925 advisors nominated by their firms, more than 6,5500 advisors received the award. . Please visit https://www.forbes.com/best-in-state-wealth-advisors for more info. Source: Forbes.com. As of 4/7/22
The FT 400 was developed in collaboration with Ignites Research, a subsidiary of the FT that provides specialized content on asset management. To qualify for the list, advisers had to have 10 years of experience and at least $300 million in assets under management (AUM) and no more than 60% of the AUM with institutional clients. The FT reaches out to some of the largest brokerages in the U.S. and asks them to provide a list of advisors who meet the minimum criteria outlined above. These advisors are then invited to apply for the ranking. Only advisors who submit an online application can be considered for the ranking. In 2019, roughly 960 applications were received and 400 were selected to the final list (41.7%). The 400 qualified advisers were then scored on six attributes: AUM, AUM growth rate, compliance record, years of experience, industry certifications, and online accessibility. AUM is the top factor, accounting for roughly 60-70 percent of the applicant’s score. Additionally, to provide a diversity of advisors, the FT placed a cap on the number of advisors from any one state that’s roughly correlated to the distribution of millionaires across the U.S.

Sean Tucker
Hello, my name is Sean Tucker. My Dad was a Marine, so I grew up in 29 Palms, CA. Yes, it is quite hot there. I have an older sister and three brothers, so we had our own sports team, no matter what the sport was.
I lived in San Diego for two years after graduation. I say “lived” rather than “went to college”, because although I did go to college there, I really worked and lived at the beach. Life and grades caught up with me, so I joined the Navy.
I was an Electronic Technician on board a ship that was always haze gray and underway. Guess what? My ship’s job was to take the Marines wherever they needed to go. Ironic huh?
I joined the Navy Reserves when I got off active duty and retired from the Reserves in 2010 as an Intelligence Specialist Chief.
I met my wife Martha in 2003, and we married in 2004. She already had Emily and Zeph and we had Hailey together. They are all married and have one child each, Ava, Ellie Joy and Jameson. We are fortunate that they all live within an hour and a half from us.
Martha and I garden, (we have seven raised beds) and golf together. I have a guitar I play, but have never gotten very good at it.
Martha and I have always been pretty involved in our church, but as we grow further into “empty nesters” we visit the grandkids on weekends more and more.
After the Navy I worked in electronics for USAToday while I paid for college (for real this time). I graduated from Cal State San Bernardino they same weekend we closed on our first house.
With a new family and a mortgage, I decided I needed a new career. So, I became a Financial Advisor. I worked mostly with state, county and city employees in Topeka with ING and then with health care workers in Kansas City with Valic.
In 2021, I earned my CFP® designation and joined a local financial planning firm, Prosperity Advisors, LLC. And in 2024, I earned my ChFEBC℠, because I felt a desire to work with government professionals again.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me
